Venturi Healthcare recently held their second “Master Chef” style competition for the seven care homes within the group. It was an excellent opportunity for our Chefs to showcase their impressive culinary skills and the Activity Coordinators wowed us with their festive table settings for Christmas Day. For many of us, home-cooked food in a warm, festive, well decorated environment is one of lives greatest pleasures and it is of course important to maintain a healthy, balanced diet and well being.
The competition was open to all Chefs and Activity Coordinators within the care home group, they were asked to prepare their Christmas signature dish and festive table setting. Entries were judged on presentation, taste, texture, imagination and creativity skills. The competition was fierce and the team of judges did deliberate for some time, they took in to account all aspects of the meals and table settings provided and concluded Sue, Activity Coordinator of Blair House to be the winner of the Christmas table setting competition.
Sue created her design using recyclable products, such as candles holders made from old fanned book pages and the base of the design was a reused picture frame. The whole creation had a warm, festive feel and will look delightful on the tables at Blair House this Christmas time.
This initiative has encouraged both our Activity Coordinators and Chefs to share best practice and ideas with one another, promoting a wide range of options for the Residents.
“I just loved Sue’s Christmas table design, not only was it creative and wonderful to look at, it was made up of all recycled materials. Sue showed, initiative and creativity within this design and should be very proud of her achievement. I know the residents and family members of Blair House will love having these centre pieces on their tables on Christmas Day! ”
Venturi Health Care Group recognise the importance of celebrating excellence within care, we want to ensure the extraordinary lengths our staff team go to within each of our homes is acknowledged and rewarded.
As such, the company has recently rolled out a new initiative, the “Annual Care Awards” which recognises individuals who go to extraordinary lengths to deliver our Care Values, ensuring Residents receive responsive, nurturing care from committed genuine individuals. The Care Awards are inclusive and celebrate the hard work of employees across all departments within our service.
Residents, staff and visitors of Blair House Care Home have been nominating those who they believe should be awarded the 2018 Care Award and the winner was Chris – Healthcare Assistant.
Chris, received a number of lovely comments from those who nominated him,

“Chris is very caring, he is a good guy and is always helpful”
“Chris is a committed, loyal and hardworking team member at Blair House, he is willing to support his team and Residents in anyway possible and this award is truly deserved. Congratulations to Chris! I think the Care Awards is an excellent initiative to ensure we recognise those who are willing to go the extra mile with their care delivery. A number of the staff received nominations which is a reminder to them that their work is appreciated by all. “
